Strategy
At Grupo Carso, the integration of social, environmental, and governance responsibility goes beyond regulatory compliance; it is what defines our organizational culture and our commitment to sustainability. This commitment extends to preventing corruption and ensuring respect for human rights across all our operations, reflected in the adoption of rigorous policies and training, monitoring, and response initiatives. By adhering to these principles, Grupo Carso aims to lead by example while embedding sustainability across its operations and organizational culture.
We have implemented policies designed to align our operations with best corporate practices. These include our Corporate Human Rights Policy, Anti-Corruption Policy, and Whistleblowing Policy. In addition, we maintain a firmly established Mission and Social Responsibility Policy.
Three fundamental pillars form the essence of our sustainability strategy: social responsibility, respect and care for the environment, and robust and ethical corporate governance. These elements do not operate in isolation; they are interdependent and intrinsically interconnected to form a holistic approach to sustainability, as illustrated in the following diagram:
Materiality
Grupo Carso recognizes that the path toward sustainability requires a deep understanding of our stakeholders’ expectations and a detailed analysis of the impacts of our operations. The first Materiality Study we conducted in 2021 has been essential to identifying the key priority areas that form the basis of our Sustainability Strategy.
In collaboration with the Faculty of Social Responsibility at Universidad Anáhuac del Norte, we undertook a study structured in four key stages:
The survey covered 2,495 people, with 80% internal participants and 20% external, covering a broad spectrum from senior management to employees at all levels, as well as customers, suppliers, regulators, and members of affected communities. The result was a Materiality Matrix that classifies 32 general sustainability topics into three levels of importance, highlighting those of greatest relevance through the consultation process.

Alignment with the SDGs
Grupo Carso is firmly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), incorporating them as a guiding framework in our operations and corporate strategies. We view contributing to the SDGs as both a responsibility and a strategic opportunity to foster inclusive and sustainable development.
Our efforts concentrate on those SDGs where we can have the greatest impact, based on the nature of our operations and the influence we exert across our value chains. Our commitment to these goals is deep and multidimensional, ranging from the eradication of poverty and hunger to the promotion of affordable and clean energy.
Through the Comprehensive Health Program, Fundación Carlos Slim implements the digital MIDO (Integrated Measurement for Early Detection) strategy across Grupo Carso companies' workplaces to systematically assess employees’ health status and support the early detection of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Through the Salud Inteligente (Smart Health) application, self-care and self-monitoring are encouraged, and healthy lifestyle recommendations are provided. More than 82,000 employees were using this application in 2023.
Through Fundación Telmex-Telcel, scholarships are offered to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies nationwide, for employees and immediate family members of Grupo Carso. Opportunities are promoted for students who stand out for their dedication and performance in their studies, as well as in extracurricular activities such as sports, culture, and/or publications, with first-year scholarship recipients also participating in ASUME (Asociación para la Superación México).
Through our water conservation practices, we contribute to water conservation and sustainable management with reused or treated water at Sanborns restaurants, Condumex plants, construction projects, and cement and construction systems plants.
We invest in renewable energy projects such as the Samalayuca-Sásabe, Waha-Presidio, and Waha-San Elizario pipelines for natural gas transportation, hydroelectric plants in Panama, and we promote energy efficiency in our office and office and shopping center development projects to ensure access to sustainable energy.
We foster a safe work environment and the opportunity to improve living conditions through various projects in which the Group’s companies generated more than 85,000 direct jobs and more than 150,000 indirect jobs in Mexico, as well as skills development through free courses for employees and the general public on the Capacitate para el Empleo platform.
We develop technology for research, development, and engineering projects in mobility solutions through the Carso Research and Development Center (CIDEC), and we invest in innovative construction infrastructure for offices and housing. We promote sustainable industrialization with cable and harness manufacturing plants certified under ESG standards as part of the supply chain of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The Group generates value by participating in bidding processes for construction, infrastructure, and oil projects, seeking business opportunities in which we strive to reduce inequality within and among the countries where we operate, ensuring policies and decisions that promote gender equality and diversity.
We redevelop non-productive assets by developing projects that promote sustainable urban communities with the goal of improving quality of life. Examples include the Plaza Carso, Nuevo Veracruz, and Paradero Ciudad Azteca shopping centers, the PFP Operations Center, and the urbanization and reorganization of Etram Toreo.
We implement circular economy practices in our cable, cement, and construction manufacturing processes to minimize waste and maximize material recycling. We promote responsible consumption in our stores and restaurants and improve processes to reduce delivery times and returns of merchandise sold through digital channels.
We are committed to climate change mitigation through reducing carbon emissions and adapting our operations to the natural environment, supported by energy efficiency certifications at our automotive harness and cable manufacturing plants.
We collaborate with various partners, including governments, the private sector, and civil society, to achieve a significant and lasting impact. Our suppliers and contractors receive and acknowledge our Code of Ethics, which prohibits corruption, bribery, and illegal payments.
